Private X-ray in London
X-rays at our London clinic
Chest, spine, shoulder, arm and hand, hip, leg and foot, pelvis and abdomen — each region is booked and priced separately, taken at the clinic and reported by a consultant radiologist. The spine is split into the neck, mid-back and lower back, and the upper and lower limbs into their individual joints, so you book the single area you need rather than a bundle you do not.
Most X-rays take only a few minutes and the majority need no preparation at all. If anything is needed for the examination you are having, the team will tell you when they ring to confirm your appointment, so there is nothing to work out from a leaflet beforehand.
You do not need a GP referral, every price is published before you book, and nothing is paid online. Send a request and the team rings you back to agree a time and confirm the fee. Your images are reported by a consultant radiologist, and the clinic is in London, N13 — a short journey from Southgate, Winchmore Hill, Enfield, Wood Green and Muswell Hill.
Private X-ray scans in London
X-rays, or radiographs, are among the best known and most widely used diagnostic imaging techniques. They are a fast, non-invasive way to produce images of the inside of the body — most often to look at bones and joints, the chest or the sinuses.
Scans are taken at the clinic in London and reported by a radiologist. You do not need a GP referral, the fee is confirmed with you before anything is arranged, and the team tells you when your report will be ready when they call you back.

What is an X-ray scan?
An X-ray is a quick imaging examination that produces pictures of the inside of your body. It is the test most often used to look at bones and joints — a suspected fracture, an injured wrist or knee, a painful hip — and at the chest, including the heart and lungs. A standard X-ray takes only a few minutes and most need no preparation at all.
The word describes both the examination and the rays themselves, which are a form of electromagnetic radiation. They cannot be seen by the naked eye, but the X-ray machine detects them and turns them into an image. Dense tissue such as bone absorbs more of the beam and appears white or pale, while softer tissue lets more through and appears darker — and that contrast is what lets a radiologist see a fracture, a chest problem or a change in a joint.
Every X-ray at the clinic is reported by a consultant radiologist. The exposure itself is brief, the radiographer explains what is involved before you start, and you can ask anything you want to first — including telling them if you might be pregnant.
Fees
Every X-ray examination the clinic publishes, with its price and its appointment length.

Brilliant service from booking appt to having the scan and report. The sonographer was extremely knowledgable and had a great bedside manner. I went on 29/12 and I didn't catch the name of the lady but I have to say she answered all my questions thoroughly and honestly.
Dr Bhagat was exceptionally thorough and reassuring. He explained the X-ray and ultrasound results clearly, ruling out any serious concerns and recommending the best next steps. His calm and caring approach put us at ease throughout. Highly recommended.
Went for some diagnostic tests and was seen within hours of contact with Jose. The tests were completed quickly, with everything fully explained and a report provided within 24 hours. Extremely efficient and friendly service. Special thanks to Jose.

Frequently Asked Questions
The questions people ask us most often before booking an X-ray.
Cannot see yours? Get in touch or call — we would rather answer it than have you guess.
Do I need a GP referral for an X-ray?
No — you can book an X-ray here yourself, which is one of the advantages of a private clinic: there is no referral letter to chase and no wait for one. If you already have a referral from a GP or a consultant, bring it with you, because it tells the reporting radiologist what to look for.
How much does a private X-ray cost?
£120 for one area, with your clinical report by a consultant radiologist included. Each additional area is charged at the same rate and you are told before it is carried out, so there is no bill afterwards that you did not agree to. Nothing is paid online — the fee is confirmed with you when the team call you back.
Which X-rays do you offer?
The clinic X-rays the chest, cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, pelvis, hip, ankle, foot, collarbone, wrist, shoulder, abdomen, elbow, hand and knee. Each is a single area, booked and priced on its own, so you pay for the one you need rather than a bundle. Every examination is listed with its fee and its appointment length in the fees section on this page.
How long does an X-ray appointment take?
Allow 10 minutes for the appointment itself. The exposure lasts moments; the rest is checking you in, getting you positioned for the view the radiologist needs, and making sure the images are clear before you leave.
How do I prepare for an X-ray?
For most X-rays there is nothing to do — eat and drink as normal and carry on with your day. Wear something comfortable and easy to move in, and expect to take off jewellery, a watch, glasses or anything metal over the area being imaged, since metal shows on the image and can hide what the radiologist needs to see. If your particular examination needs anything else, the team will say so when they ring to confirm your appointment.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Photo identification, and your referral letter if you happen to have one. If you are claiming on private medical insurance, bring your policy or membership number and the authorisation reference your insurer gave you.
Are X-rays safe?
An X-ray uses ionising radiation, which is why it is carried out by a trained radiographer and only where there is a clinical reason for it. The exposure itself is brief and the radiographer explains what is involved before you start. If you want to talk through what the examination you are having involves, ask them or the clinician first — it is a reasonable question and they would rather answer it than not.
Can I have an X-ray if I am pregnant?
Tell the team when they ring to confirm your appointment, and tell the radiographer again before the examination starts, if you are pregnant or think you might be. They will discuss it with you before anything goes ahead, so it is known in advance rather than raised on the day.
What can an X-ray show?
An X-ray is the test most often used to look at bone, so a suspected fracture, an injured wrist or knee and a painful hip are the usual reasons for one, along with the chest. What the images show is interpreted by a consultant radiologist rather than left to you to read, and their report is what comes back to you.
What is the difference between an X-ray and an ultrasound scan?
An X-ray uses ionising radiation and is the test most often used to look at bone. An ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves rather than radiation, and is used to look at soft tissue and organs. Which is appropriate depends on what is being investigated. The clinic offers both, and private ultrasound scans have their own page on this site.
How and when will I get my X-ray results?
Your images are reported by a consultant radiologist and the report is sent to you. The team will tell you at your appointment how and when to expect it, rather than this page promising a turnaround that your particular examination may not match. If it has not arrived by when you were told to expect it, call the clinic and ask.
Can I use private health insurance for an X-ray?
Often, but it depends on your policy and your level of cover — an insurer recognising a clinic is not the same as your policy covering a particular test. Check with your insurer before you book and ask whether they need to authorise it first, then bring the authorisation reference with you.
Where can I get a private X-ray in London?
X-rays are taken at the London Diagnostic Centre in London, N13 — a short journey from Southgate, Winchmore Hill, Enfield, Wood Green and Muswell Hill. The full address and directions are on the contact page.
