Private diagnostic imaging in London
Private ultrasound scans
A private ultrasound scan is a quick and reliable way of looking into a range of medical concerns, with no referral needed. Our scans give detailed information about soft tissue and internal organs, helping to detect, monitor or rule out particular conditions.
Because ultrasound uses sound waves rather than radiation, there is no radiation dose to consider. Our sonographers will explain what they are looking at as they go, whether you are trying to make sense of a symptom or simply want peace of mind.
What is an ultrasound scan?
A private ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves rather than radiation to build a live picture of the soft tissue inside your body — muscle, tendon, blood vessels and organs. Most people find it comfortable, though you may feel some pressure where the probe presses on a sore area, and because no ionising radiation is involved an ultrasound scan can be repeated as often as it is clinically useful.
For most scans the routine is the same. A little water-based gel goes onto the skin so the probe makes proper contact, and the sonographer moves the probe over the area while the picture builds on the screen beside you. Because that picture is live rather than a single still image, the sonographer can watch things move — a tendon as the joint bends, or, where it is useful, blood flowing through a vessel. Some pelvic scans give a clearer view from inside, using a slim, tube-shaped probe; if that applies to you it is explained first, and nothing happens until you agree to it.
Some scans need a little preparation and others need none at all. What you need to do depends on which scan you are having. We will tell you when we ring to confirm your appointment, and you can read more about what to expect at any time.

Brilliant service from booking appt to having the scan and report. The sonographer was extremely knowledgable and had a great bedside manner. I went on 29/12 and I didn't catch the name of the lady but I have to say she answered all my questions thoroughly and honestly.
Dr Bhagat was exceptionally thorough and reassuring. He explained the X-ray and ultrasound results clearly, ruling out any serious concerns and recommending the best next steps. His calm and caring approach put us at ease throughout. Highly recommended.
Went for some diagnostic tests and was seen within hours of contact with Jose. The tests were completed quickly, with everything fully explained and a report provided within 24 hours. Extremely efficient and friendly service. Special thanks to Jose.
Superb service. I had an US for my soft tissue, very welcoming staff. The sonographer was thorough, friendly and accurate. I would chose this place again and highly recommended if you could choose to have your In-Health scans.

I was able to get an appointment for an ultrasound scan within a few days for a reasonable cost and the service was very friendly and efficient and got the scan report back within a couple of hours.
huge thank you to Doctor Jawad Yahya from the bottom of my heart for being an amazing doctor. Thank you for referring me to Doctor Hossein Rostamipour (consultant psychiatrist) for ADHD assessment.
Excellent practice. Friendly, welcoming personnel and the venue is clean and modern. The radiologist was pleasant and explained everything clearly. Highly recommended.
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions people ask us most often before booking a scan.
Cannot see yours? Get in touch or call — we would rather answer it than have you guess.
What happens during an ultrasound scan?
You lie on a couch and a water-based gel is spread on the skin so the probe keeps proper contact. The sonographer moves a small handheld probe across the area, and the echoes coming back are turned into a moving image they watch live as they work. The gel feels cool and wipes off afterwards.
Does an ultrasound scan hurt?
Most people find it comfortable. Nothing is injected, and for most scans nothing enters the body — the probe is simply pressed against the skin. If the area being scanned is already sore, that pressure can be briefly uncomfortable; tell the sonographer and they will ease off.
Do I need to prepare for my scan?
Some scans need a little preparation and most need none. It depends which part of the body is being looked at — the abdomen and pelvis are the ones that most often do. Rather than guess, call us on 020 8920 3129 before your appointment and we will tell you exactly what applies to yours.
How long does a scan take?
Most appointments are 20–25 minutes, depending on the area being examined. There is no sedation and no recovery time, so you can go straight back to your usual routine.
Is ultrasound safe?
Ultrasound builds its picture from high-frequency sound rather than X-rays, so there is no exposure to ionising radiation, no dose to keep track of and nothing that accumulates between scans. That is why a scan can be repeated as often as it is clinically useful.
What can I do afterwards?
Carry on as normal. Most people eat, drink and drive straight after an ultrasound scan — there is no sedation and no recovery time.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can choose a scan on this page and arrange it yourself, which is one of the advantages of a private clinic — there is no referral letter to chase and no wait for one. If you already have a referral from a GP or consultant, bring it to your appointment.
I have sent my booking request — what happens next?
Sending a request does not book a slot and takes no payment. We ring you back to agree a time that suits you, confirm the price before anything is committed to, and tell you about any preparation your particular scan needs.
